Window frame surveys are carried out by inspecting the window frames
from the outside. Each frame is inspected at close quarters and
tested for rot using a thin bladed screwdriver.
The inside sills and stiles are inspected visually through the
glass, and where possible sashes are opened and prodded with the
screwdriver.
Investigations are limited to gentle prodding because excessive
digging into rotten areas can expose woodwork to rapid further
deterioration.
A detailed schedule is produced identifying window parts that need
replacement or repair.
The schedule is issued to independent contractors who can provide
overall repair costs or a unit by unit repair cost.
We are continually researching repair methods and re-inspecting
previously repaired work to provide the latest proven techniques in
this work.
